2. Further symmetry elements:
First it is to be checked whether to this C3 a S2n (i.e. thus S6 ) colinear is, i.e. whether S2n coincides with appropriate Cn. That is not the case, because the NH 3 - molecule has no S-axis (see step 113 ). The next question is for the existenz of C2 axis perpendicular to the reference axis C3 . Since such C2 are missing , the group of points of the NH3 molecule can be only a C- point group. The decision, which is present these groups, falls by the determination of the symmetry planes. Because no s h are available , however s v, arises as point group C3v for the NH3 molecule.
