The associative law means that the product of three items ABC is independent of whether one the product AB multiplied by C or A multiplies by the product BC :
(AB)C = * A(BC).
By the commutative law one understands that the product of two items is independent of the order of the multiplication: AB = BA.

Consider: The associative law is a necessary condition for a group, not the commutative law!

Check whether for the normal multiplication of the real numbers the associative law is fulfilled!
