Inverse A ^-1 of an item A is an item, which results in the one element E in the case of multiplication with A: AA ^-1 = A ^-1 A = E. For a real number is the inverse item the reciprocal value of the number; e.g. for A=3 A^-1 = 1/3 applies, because AA ^-1 = 3 * 1/3 = 1.
