Remember: As quantities we selected the real numbers, the rational numbers, the signs in our examples and -; as linkages (group multiplication) served normal multiplication, addition and the linkages for the signs, defined in step 172. We turn now again to the symmetry operations interesting particularly us, and we will see that the quantity of all symmetry operations, which can be executed at a molecule is a group. This group is called point group of symmetry (the designation in step 108 already one explained, possibly repeat you this training step).

Consider: The items of the point groups of symmetry are the symmetry operations, not the symmetry elements!

With the help of the point groups of symmetry the molecules (generally natural all geometric bodies) can be classified concerning their symmetry characteristics.
